In this talk, I will give an overview of the subconvexity problem, which is one of the key areas of research in analytic number theory. Further I will discuss subconvex estimates for Rankin–Selberg $L$-functions in the level aspect. The talk is based on a joint work with Aggarwal, Kwan, Leung, Li, and Young.
